Abstract:There exist differences between Rongyutang's Mr. LI Zhuo-wu's Comments on Loyal Outlaws of the Marsh and LI Zhi's Comments on Outlaws of the Marsh. One of the common important features is that the word “Buddha” is frequently used in comments on figures' behaviors. There are three reasons for this. Firstly, some figures themselves are connected with Buddhism in their evolution. Secondly, in renaissance of Zen in late Ming Dynasty, LI Zhi had profound study of Buddhism. Therefore, his comments inevitably highlighted Buddhist thoughts. Thirdly, The commentators focused on social issues and they themselves met their ups and downs in their life. Accordingly, if we examine LI Zhi's Comments on Outlaws of the Marsh with such view, we may find it should be the derivative of LI Zhuo-wu's edition.
