On Loneliness inThe Old Man and the Sea and Its Spiritual Value

  • 摘要:《老人与海》是海明威的一部精神自传,也是他晚年心境的写照和人生的缩影。作家将圣地亚哥作为自己内心情感的投影,探析老人孤独的精神特质,可见作家孤独的精神世界。文章通过对海明威人生轨迹和所处社会状况的解析,进一步解读其孤独的思想内蕴,分析其孤独产生的缘由,从而探寻这种孤独的精神特质对于现代人的精神价值。

    Abstract:The novel The Old Man and the Sea is a Hemingway's Spiritual autobiography as well as the description of his mental state of his late years and the epitome of his life. The writer took Santiago as the projection of his inner emotion and explored the spiritual peculiarity of a lonely old man. Through the analysis of Hemingway's life and social conditions, this paper has further interpreted the mental connotations of his loneliness and its root, and hence probe into its spiritual value for modern people.
