Relationships Between the Grand View Garden and the Characters’ Personalities from a Spatial Perspective

摘要:《红楼梦》中的大观园是为迎接元春省亲而建, 从空间视角出发, 考察大观园中主要人物的居住环境及人物性格特征, 可将大观园分为三个世界:由宝玉、黛玉、妙玉所组成的“衷情”世界, 由元春、宝钗、李纨所构成的“守理”世界, 由探春、惜春、迎春所构成的以分别信奉儒、释、道思想来寻求心灵解脱的现实世界。在行文中作者没有将三个世界截然对立, 也没有将三个世界绝对化, 这使得作品既具有丰富的多元立体性又层次清晰, 大观园是作者为众女儿建造的一个“葬花塚”。

Abstract:The Grand View Garden in A Dream of Red Mansions was built for Yuanchun’s paying visit to her parents and elders.From the spatial perspective, one can examine the living environment of the main figures in the Garden and their characters.And this Garden consists of three worlds:the world of Baoyu, Daiyu and Miaoyu who devote all their own to their love, the world of Yuanchun, Baochai and Li Wan who insist on their rationality, and the world of Tanchun, Xichun and Yinchuan who believe in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism respectively to pursue their soul liberation.In the novel, the writer has not opposed the three worlds completely, and absolutized them either.This donates the novel with diversified tridimensional character and clear layers.This Garden is in fact a tomb built by the writer for girls to bury the flowers.
