What a Strange Phenomenon that So Many Redologists Failed to Know the Meaning of the Hanging Bottle! ——On the Humanistic Value of “Spring in the Hanging Bottle” in the Qianlong’s Poem Peach

  • 摘要:1911年影印出版的红楼梦抄本对“悬瓶”的注释是“悬于壁上之瓶也”,与康熙朝编制的重要韵书《佩文韵府》对“悬瓶”的注解完全不符,说明红楼梦抄本上“悬瓶”的批注者对《佩文韵府》完全陌生。鉴于《佩文韵府》与曹寅的关系,“悬瓶”的误解者不可能是熟悉曹寅者,应该是不争的史实了。而一百年来新红学学者不仅从未觉察,反而“以讹传讹”。本文彻底纠正之,并且首次揭示“悬瓶”一词最形象地解说恰恰可从乾隆帝东巡中创作的《桃》诗获得,“悬瓶藏花隔岁看”是乾隆帝的新颖构思,在中国文化健康的惜春情怀和脉络中具有不朽的价值。

    Abstract:The photoengraving A Dream in Red Mansions in 1911 had the note of “hanging bottle” as “the one hanging on the wall”, which is completely different from the one in the dictionary Rhyming Things in Peiwen. This indicates that the note maker of the photoengraving book was entirely unfamiliar with Rhyming Things in Peiwen. Referring to the relationship between the dictionary and CAO Yin, we can conclude an indisputable fact that the note maker was not the person who knew CAO Yin well. However, the redologists have failed to be aware of it for over 100 years. Instead, they have inherited this incorrect note. This paper has made a bold attempt to make correction of it. Moreover, it has revealed that the most vivid interpretation of “hanging bottle” can be obtained from the poem composed by Emperor Qianlong. The line “The peach blossoms hiding in the hanging bottle for appreciation in the following year” was the elaborate design of the Emperor. And it has the everlasting value in Chinese inheritance of praising spring.
