Abstract:Since the 1990s, the wave of studying demotic history has begun to cover the whole China, while the professional history has been faced with narrower and narrower spreading space. The readers’ love for demotic history and indifference to the profession one reflects not only the people’s urgent need to know the truth of history, but reveals the current situation in which the study of professional history remains far from people’s life. There exist supportive and opponent attitudes toward the professional history in academic circle. Such difference reflects people’s different views to the functions and service objects. If the professional historians intend to change such indifference, they will have to change the traditional historical concepts, adopt the writing styles of demotic history and write out a large amount of scientific classic works. The meticulous professional historical works will win the readers’ support, break the crisis in history and achieve the transformation of modern history.
