Abstract:Chinese culture concerning turtles originated from myths in ancient times. In the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, our ancestors discovered the amazing power of turtles and they placed their worship to life in such animals. In the evolution through various dynasties, such culture has undergone its fate from glory to decline. In such evolution, the culture has involved the abundant semiotic meanings. Its signifiers include blocking up, self-protection, defense, shrinking back, tardiness, wisdom, mystery, power and worship to reproduction. And its signified involves harmonious natural spirit, strong life consciousness and cosmic travel.
