A Meaning Analysis of SONG Jiang’s Back Gangrene

摘要:背疽，是古代中医外科重症。《水浒传》写宋江背疽，不是金圣叹所评的恶人恶报，也不是王望如所说的兄弟情深。从天人感应的医理看，宋江背疽乃成书于宋代历史生成的独特“背疽精神现象”，借以抒发宋代士人力图保民安国、平定天下的大无畏精神。

Abstract:The back gangrene was a severe surgical disease in Chinese medicine in ancient China. In Outlaws of the Marsh, SONG Jiang got the back gangrene. This was not what JIN Sheng-tan said that evil would be rewarded with evil, and was not what WANG Wang-ru said “the deep brotherhood” either. From medical theory of response between heaven and man, the story about SONG Jiang’s back gangrene formed based on the unique historical gangrene spirit in Song Dynasty, which was borrowed to express the peope’s spirit to protect their home and land.
