A Probe into the Development of Dump-Trailer Transportation from the Perspective of Economies of Scale

Based on the discussion about the developing course of dump-trailer transportation in China, an analysis is made and it finds that the causes for the sluggish development are as follows: the poor logistics information flow; institutional factors and market environment; limited cooperation between enterprises. According to the principles governing economies of scale, it is believed that the dump-trailer transportation economies of scale chiefly lie in the seven aspects like the transportation vehicles, the transport management, the logistics information and so on. A further exploration of the dump-trailer transporta- tion economies of scale finds the developing trend is as follows: the differential enterprises form extensive logistics alliance; the proportion of the multimodal coordinated transport is drastically increased and specialized dump-trailer transportation platforms come into being.
