Spatial-temporal Characteristics Analysis of Sustainable Land Use Based on Comprehensive Evaluation:A Case of Sichuan Province
Abstract
The sharp man-land contradiction is a basic provincial reality of Sichuan. A sustainable land-use evaluation model was constructed on the basis of the four aspects of resources, environment, economy, society, and by use of the com- prehensive evaluation method and GIS technology, a spatial-temporal characteristic analysis is made of the sustainable land use in the province. The result showed that the sustainable land use index is found to take a gradual rising trend. With the sustain- able index taking a fluctuating trend, the other indices concerning the environment, economy, society and the comprehensive index are all taking an upward trend, of which the environment index and its increase amplitude are all less than the other three aspects; the land use sustainability displays a attribute of spatial aggregation, and comprehensive land use sustainability of e- conomy and society is found to have a spatial consistency. The West Sichuan Plain and the Mid-Sichuan Hilly Area are found to
have a relatively higher level of sustainability and spatial consistency, while the Chengdu Plain, the South Sichuan and the North-east Sichuan Economic Zones are found to have a nice sustainability of resources, while the high environment sustain- ability is chiefly found in the Northwest Sichuan Plateau and the South Sichuan Mountain Area. The economic and social factors are found to play the dominating role in land use sustainability, and the environment and resource sustainability are liable to the impact of natural conditions. It is concluded that efforts should be made to achieve a balanced, coordinated sustainable develop- ment between economy, society, resources and environment.
