Origin of Two YUANs Thought of Interpreting Zhuangzi

  • The interpretation of Zhuangzi made by YUAN Hongdao and YUAN Zhongdao was influenced by the
thought of combination of three religions, especially the philosophy of mind in late Ming Dynasty and LI Zhi’s thought. Their works concerning interpreting Zhuangzi had the strong Buddhist color and were closely related with their nurture of Buddhism from their teachers since their childhood. Their interpretation of Zhuangzi in more styles was consistent with Gong’an School’s literary thought“only nature and no decoration”.
