A Textual Research into Relevant Geographical Names in Romance of Three Kingdoms

  • Romance of Three Kingdoms was the most excellent historical novel in ancient China. For the sake of narrative“authenticity”, the people’s names and their main events concerned in the novel are basically in line with those in A History of Three Kingdoms in biographical style. The only flaw lies in that, possibly due to the long time from the events, the writer wrongly used the geographical names that had been given up by predecessors or that did not appear yet in later times, or took the same places as the different ones, or confounded the relations between superiors and their subordinates. On the basis of full use of literature, this paper has made a textual research into the relevant issues in an attempt to offer some help for the correct interpretation of a classic work.
