The Evolution of the Concept of Fraction and Its Teaching Enlightenments

  • The understanding of the concept of fraction is of vital importance in the students’ learning of fraction and even in their learning of mathematics on the whole.By analyzing the four ways of fraction generation of“Part-Whole”, “Measurement”, “Division”, “Set-theory”, it was found that the process of evolution of fraction is inseparable from the successful expansion from an integer system to rational number system.And based on the above analysis, three teaching inspirations are obtained:The teaching procedures must be arranged in accordance with the process of fraction evolution;the teaching content must be made to permeate the basic ideas of mathematics;the teaching practice should focus on the enlargement of number system.
