A Study of Compilation and Publication of Textbooks for Bachelors of Translation and Interpreting with Textbooks by FLTRP and SFTRP Respectively as Examples

  • Obvious problems have been found in Higher Education Textbooks for Bachelors of Translation and Interpreting (BTI) published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) and Series Textbooks for BTI published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP). The two series of textbooks are the model textbooks. But the problems are the imbalance between theories and practices of the major, thematic repetition, lack of distinctiveness, outdated content, and the limited publishing sources. It is necessary to take strategies as follows. Firstly, the compilation standards of the textbooks for BTI should be unified. Secondly, elements of core values should be highlighted. Thirdly, the situational, practical, and timely principles should be prioritized. Fourthly, textbooks with distinctiveness should be developed. Fifthly, the cooperation between the presses of foreign language universities and those of other universities should be strengthened. Last but not least, effective evaluation and feedback mechanisms of the textbooks should be established. Hence, the development of the textbooks for BTI can be promoted, sustainable and positive.
