On the Japanese Factors in Women’s Periodicals in the Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of china
Abstract
The disastrous defeat of Sino-Japanese War in 1894-1895 made Chinese aware of the cause of backwardness: the backward education. At this time, Japanese modern education was in its fast development. Therefore, learning from Japanese had gradually become an important choice of modern China. And the women’s periodicals were no exception. The periodicals of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of china imitated and inherited the educational concept of Meiji Government in three aspects: promotion of women’s education, advocation of scientific life and improvement of women’s sense of citizenship.
