Design of MAC Protocol for Ultra High Rate WLAN
Abstract
OFDM, MIMO and channel binding are applied in wireless LAN so as to achieve the equally fast data transfer rate as that in 1Gbps Ethernet network. However, high speed in the physical layer cannot be fully realized without a more effective MAC protocol cooperation in the design of super high speed wireless LAN. The restraint effect of the previous RTS/CTS competitive mechanism in the high speed link is analyzed, which brings about the conclusion that high-speed WLAN needs to elevate its throughput by adoption of entire round telecommunication and three solutions, based on AP channel resource management mechanism, are thus put forth together with a detailed analysis of their merits and faults, which can serve as theoretical grounds for the MAC design in super high speed wireless LAN.
