TheSNARCEffectofFingerCountingPictures

  • By use of the experimental paradigm proposed by Dehaene, the research subjects were asked to classify the numbers shown and the numbers symbolized by hand gestures so as to explore the differences between the SNARC effect of hand gestures and the SNARC effect of numbers. The results indicated that:(1)There exists SNARC effect in the processing of finger counting pictures, which further indicates that the SNARC effect has great stability and universality;(2)the processing of hand gestures is much more difficult and complex than that of the Arabic numbers, yet the SNARC effect is found in the processing of the two materials, whose results prove to be consistent with the computational model for digital processing proposed by Vergut et al.
